Jack's work journey with Riverland and Mallee Enterprises

Riverland and Mallee Enterprises is a registered provider of the School Leaver Employment Supports program under the NDIS.

In mid-January, a determined school leaver from Renmark named Jack embarked on his journey from school to employment with the support of Riverland and Mallee Enterprises.

Riverland and Mallee Enterprises' School Leaver Employment Supports Consultant Phoebe worked with Jack in creating a resume, shaping it into two distinct formats – an online profile and a physical document. Jack's journey also included capacity-building sessions, where his skills were honed and confidence bolstered.

With Phoebe's support, Jack navigated the complexities of the job market, pinpointing his passion within the hospitality and retail sectors. Maintaining a strong connection with his local community was crucial.

With a need to overcome transportation barriers, he required job opportunities that were within walking distance. A deep dive into local businesses led to Jack prioritising his top four employers.

Jack and Phoebe's collaborative efforts came to fruition when Jack successfully secured a six-week work experience opportunity at Domino's Renmark with the welcoming proprietor, Trish.

During this time Phoebe provided support as Jack learned the nuances of the business – from starting the day with store openings, to food preparation and the use of machinery. Jack's first day at Domino's, under the tutelage of Trish, was a memorable one.

This story showcases the spirit of community – local businesses and proprietors like Trish investing in the potential of individuals requiring support, and partnering with organisations like Riverland and Mallee Enterprises means school leavers are one step closer to reaching their employment goals.
