Tashara’s Sweet Success: How a Local Program is Helping Young People Flourish in the Workforce

For many young people, taking the first steps into the workforce can seem daunting. But for Tashara, an eight-week work experience placement at Renmark Woolworths Bakery has been nothing short of transformative — a stepping stone toward independence and self-confidence.

Tashara’s journey started with the support of NDIS Service Provider, Riverland and Mallee Enterprises, a local disability support organisation dedicated to helping individuals navigate employment opportunities. With their assistance, Tashara entered the bakery's fast-paced environment, where she quickly adapted and thrived.

Her responsibilities were as varied as the bakery’s offerings. From coating and packing cinnamon donuts to labelling biscuits and restocking shelves, Tashara embraced each responsibility, learned the bakery’s operations, and completed training modules in line with Woolworths’ workplace values and standards.

Tashara approached every shift with determination and a can-do attitude.

Supportive colleagues — including Store Manager Kristy Kelton, Team Leader Sue Schubert, and Bakery 2IC Peter Perry — were quick to recognise her contributions and provided glowing feedback at the conclusion of her placement.

Although Tashara’s placement has come to an end, her employment journey is just beginning.
